KYTHNOS

Information | Photo Gallery | Map

The picturesque island of Kythnos is a part of the Western Cyclades, with a size of 99 sq.km and a population of about 1600 inhabitants.  It is a peaceful island with beautiful beaches, impressive rocky coasts, and tranquil alleys winding through the brightly whitened settlements. It was first inhabited in the prehistoric era, some 10000 years ago. In addition to the beauteous landscape, there are many remarkable monuments which include Byzantine churches and Castles, the gigantic cave of Kafyki, adorned with stalactites and stalagmites, and the modern solar and wind power plants, the hope of environmentalism worldwide. All these make Kythnos a unique destination, one that has been increasing in popularity, as more and more people are becoming acquainted with its charms. This island offers to its visitors a variety of entertainment options, including taverns, bars, water sports, and a broad network of trekking routes. The means of transportation around the island, along with the services and the quantity and the quality of goods that are offered in the shopping places are satisfactory. There is a regular ferryboat and flying dolphin service from Piraeus and from Lavrio to Kythnos. It is ideal for tranquil ?yet not necessarily solitary- vacations, while its proximity to the mainland makes it especially popular to those unable or unwilling to waste time on a lengthy sea journey.
