GENERAL INFORMATION
Very close to Milos, Kimolos is an island for quite vacations, without many tourists around. The island has a surface area of 36 sq. km. with approximately 750 inhabitants.
HISTORY - CULTURE
The history of the island coincides with the history of the very close island of Milos. In any case, Kimolos followed - rather participated in developments based on the actions of Milos. The only difference between the two islands was the trade of the local famous "chalk" - a rock abundant on the island.
SIGHTS
Kimolos is one of the islands offering the solitary version of any Cycladian island. Scattered low greenery, a calm and picturesque "Chora" (mainland), deserted beaches and numerous churches make up the general image. When wandering about the island, either on foot or by boat, one can discover many interesting aspects. But the visitor"s interest is focused on Paleokastro, north of the main city - with some ruins of anti-pirate fortresses - and the unexplored cave of Vromolimni.
ENTERTAINMENT - SPORTS - SHOPPING
Not many options in this field. The sun, the sea, many walkabouts, cafeterias and little taverns are the joys one can live on this island. As for the rest, you will have to go to adjacent Milos. The same is valid for the island"s market, where one can only find necessities. Local products include, apart from the souvenir handicrafts, the local delight "ladenia" - a bread prepared with oil, onion and tomato.
ACCESS
With a ferry-boat from Piraeus, all year long and especially in the summer.
