Koufonissia is without doubt our own Caribbean. Two neighbouring Islands of Small East Cyclades, Kato and Pano Koufonissi between Amorgos and Naxos.
Pano Koufonissi (or just Koufonissi) is probably one of the smallest islands of the Cyclades with its extend of approximately 4 km2 and its 300 permanent residents. However, it has many things to offer such as its slow pace, fresh fish and beautiful beaches. Kato Koufonissi in our days has no permanent residents and only during summer you may see nudism lovers or Yaghtmen.
These small islands were only discovered by tourists in the last few years. They have minimal road networks and most of the traveling is done on foot or by boat. The fish, which is served in the tavernas, is both fresh and abundant as most of the island's inhabitants are fishermen.
The locals are friendly and hospitable and they are waiting to welcome you in their unique way. They will tell you stories from the past and they will show you "hidden" beauties.
Small Cyclades have natural beauties that make them stand out among the rest of the Aegean islands. The numerous leeward beaches, where you can relax and swim in their crystal clear waters will fascinate you with their different shades of blue and turquoise. Paths that lead to mystic places; delicious local dishes and tasty natural products, leaving you craving seafood that one can enjoy by the sea or at villages on the inland, next to picturesque white houses and small churches.
Chora is the island's only settlement and it is built on the south-western side directly above the harbor. There you will find taverns, a few shops, two super markets and two bars. To the east of the harbor one will find the main road of the island, which extends only for a few kilometers.
The road leads to the beach Finikas. You can continue by foot to the beaches Fanos and Platia Pounta, the famous beach of Koufonissi. Following further the coastline you will reach the so called "Pisines" (Pools) and reaching at last the northern tip of the island the big sandy beach of Pori stretches out in front of you.
.............a place where the horizon remains unspoiled and where people are still connected with nature......
